History

Nightmare Sonata was born from me and my late partner. We talked many times about our love for music (Metal), although She preferred heavier and darker sounds, I was more into the Symphonic/Operatic Metal styles (Within Temptation, Sirenia, Unsun, etc). We fantasized about being in each other's band. I was happy to sing but in RL, I do more piano/keyboard and a bit of guitar. She did a lot more guitar. Either way, as mentioned 'late', and we never got to live out our dreams. AI has come a long way to make the dream come true for both of us.

Intent

I know there's a lot of controversy about AI-assisted/generated music. This project is a rememberance for the love we both had. It is shared as an expression of love, hoping that it would bring at least some joy to people who enjoy the genre. This is also a genre that semi-died in the early 2000s, where hiring orchestras would be beyond any normal person's budget. Even for big budget groups, it would be a huge financial risk 'hoping the song would be a hit' or face financial costs. Having said that, this project is not without costs so anyone that helps buy/stream this would be appreciated.

Naming

Nightmare Sonata was born of the word Nightmare (for the female horse/unicorn aspect) and the Sonata (Operatic side of vocals). This is a blend of symphonic/operatic metal that we both liked

Concepts

Virtual Band

Virtual Bands have always existed, though I would think the most famous of them all is the Gorillaz. This is a quintet virtual band consisting of:

• Sylvene [nymph] - Lead singer
• Dark Druid [human] - Lead guitarist (backup vocal)
• Drizzit [dryad] - Keyboard/FX (backup vocal)
• Atomatos [centaur] - Bass guitar (backup vocal)
• The Thumper [satyr] - Drums

Story albums

This is a homage as well to the genre where an album told a story. The opening album does have some 'graphical' themes but then this goes back to the black metal days where you had pretty dark gory art on covers (I loved them!). I guess it's a Symphonic Metal's version of 'explicit lyrics warning' :)

Member/Story breakdowns

I'd rather not completely spoil the story - but it's a colab story in a way that remembers me and my partner's roleplay days. Us two girls were pretty wild ;P - then there's the one shared satyr friend that helped me make this all happen (Thank you!).
